Ready Maid Commercial Service Guide

Find a Domestic Helper for Cooking and Household Support

Ready Maid helps Malaysian families review and interview domestic-helper candidates for cooking, cleaning, laundry, ironing and general household support. A suitable household helper should be selected according to the actual workload, cooking requirements, relevant experience, work habits, communication and willingness to learn the family’s routine.

Possible Household Duties

Understand the Real Workload

The family should explain whether the role is general household support, cooking-focused, for a large home or mixed with child or elderly care. A large and demanding household should not be described as “simple housework.”

House type, number of bedrooms and bathrooms, household members, meals, children, elderly family members, pets, cars, guests and any second property all affect workload.

Questions to Ask About Cooking

  1. What dishes did you cook for your previous employer?
  2. Did you cook every day and for how many people?
  3. Can you cook rice, soup, vegetables, chicken and fish?
  4. Can you follow a written recipe or video?
  5. Can you learn Chinese, Indian, Malaysian or Western dishes?
  6. Can you prepare less spicy, child-friendly or elderly-friendly food?
  7. Which kitchen equipment have you used?
  8. How do you store leftovers and separate raw and cooked food?

Indonesian and Filipino Candidates

Some Indonesian candidates may be familiar with regional ingredients, rice-based meals, soups, vegetables, chicken, fish and Malaysian-style household routines. Some Filipino candidates may have experience with Filipino food, simple Western meals, Chinese-style dishes, baking and English-language recipes.

Neither nationality is automatically better. The stronger choice is the candidate whose actual experience, communication, attitude and expectations match the household.

Cleaning Experience Must Be Verified

Ask which tasks the candidate performed, how large the previous home was, how many family members lived there, whether another helper was employed, whether she cared for children or elderly people at the same time and how she organised daily work.

Daily, Weekly and Occasional Duties

Daily duties may include meals, dishes, key-area cleaning, laundry, beds and rubbish.

Weekly duties may include bed linen, windows, deep bathroom cleaning, cupboards, fans, cars and outdoor areas.

Occasional duties may include guest preparation, festival cleaning, special meals, packing and storeroom organisation.

Cooking Expectations and Meal Planning

Cooking expectations should be realistic. The family should consider the number of people, separate dishes, special diets, child or elderly meals, packed lunches, grocery preparation and the time needed for cleaning.

A simple weekly menu can reduce confusion, control costs and improve consistency. Families should decide who plans meals, whether leftovers may be used, who buys groceries and which dishes require training.

Food Safety, Allergies and Cleaning Chemicals

Employers should demonstrate handwashing, raw and cooked food separation, refrigeration, defrosting, reheating, leftovers, expiry checks, allergy precautions, knife safety and surface cleaning.

Cleaning-product instructions should explain which product is used where, the proper amount, whether gloves are needed, which products must never be mixed and where chemicals are stored.

Laundry, Ironing and Equipment

Discuss colour sorting, delicate clothing, hand washing, baby clothes, elderly-care laundry, dryers, iron settings, stain treatment and storage. Demonstrate washing machines, dryers, ovens, air fryers, pressure cookers, vacuums, steam mops and security systems.

Time Management and Realistic Priorities

A clear daily sequence helps. Morning may focus on breakfast, family support, kitchen cleaning and laundry; afternoon on lunch, main cleaning and ironing; evening on dinner, kitchen reset and next-day preparation.

One helper cannot safely care for a baby, assist a bedridden elderly person, cook multiple meals, clean a large home, wash cars, manage pets and wake repeatedly at night without realistic prioritisation and support.

Pets, Cars and Privacy

Pet type, feeding, walking, bathing and cleaning duties should be disclosed before confirmation. Car-washing frequency and scope should also be explained.

The helper may have access to bedrooms, documents, children and home-security systems. Household privacy rules should prohibit unauthorised photos, social-media posting, disclosure of address or routines and unnecessary access to personal documents.
